Privacy & data

Welcome to our tree club! Here is how we keep your secrets safe when you visit our forest.

1. What we collect when you write to us

When you press Send, we save your name, email, letter, and the time you sent it.

We also get simple clues about your phone or computer, browser, and rough area from the internet connection. This helps keep the website safe and helps us reply.

We do not ask for your GPS, camera, microphone, contacts, or secret device number. We do not collect these things while you are only looking at the website.

2. Who can see your letter?

Only Oliver and the helper who builds the website can see what you wrote and the submission context. The record is emailed to Oliver and stored in a private Google Sheet.

3. The little helpers

Cloudflare receives the form request and supplies the connection context listed above. Google Apps Script, Google Sheets and Gmail store the record, deliver it to Oliver, and can send an automatic receipt. These helpers process the information only to run the contact form.

4. Automatic receipt emails

After you send a letter, we send a small email to say it arrived. It has a safe Stop acknowledgements link if you do not want more of these emails. Stopping the email never stops your letter from reaching Oliver.

5. Cookies (Not the chocolate chip kind)

We don't use sneaky trackers. We only save tiny bits of information to remember if you like the website dark or bright, and to remember your cookie choices so we don't keep asking!

6. How long we keep your letters

We keep your letters so we can write back to you. If you ever want us to throw them away, just tell us and we will put them in the recycling bin right away!

7. Your special rights

Because you are important, you have the right to ask us what we know about you, change it, or tell us to erase it forever.

8. Making a request

Just click Contact us and say "please delete my message". We will do it fast!

9. Keeping it safe

We have a strong lock on our website to protect your messages from bad guys.

10. For kids

This website is for everyone to look at trees, but if a young kid sends us a message, we will safely delete it if asked.
